Frogg Fans, Take Note

Metaversatility, the newest of the MDCs, has announced that fan-favorite musician Frogg Marlowe will be playing two live shows, in actual Real Life! He will perform at Limelight Music and Drinks on February 15, 2007, a gig which immediately precedes the Second Life Texas Meetup in Austin on the following Saturday afternoon.

The virtual merriment will ensue at 8:30 p.m., at Limelight Music & Drinks, 2718 N. St. Mary's St., with the Meetup being hosted by Mozart's Coffeehouse. Additionally, both of Frogg's performances will be simulcast on Metaversatility Island.

For more information, check out the Metaversatility blog and by joining the SLTX Meetup group. RSVP to Adri Saarinen. Have fun without me, you guys! I'm not bitter! If you need me, I'll just be over here, weeping quietly under my desk.

Frogg Marlowe on MTV!

Frogg Marlowe has been interviewed for MTV, and you can see a short piece of the segment on MTV.com. I believe there will be a longer bit on MTV at some time tonight, but I'm much too mesmerized by the action of Frogg's enormous feet to go check it out. Enjoy the clip!

NOTE: We have it on good authority (I'm looking at you, Torley!) that this clip won't play outside the US. "Copyrights restrict us from playing this video outside the U.S." If one of you enterprising young rapscallions would like to create an accessible copy of the clip for, you know, posterity, I'm sure it would be well received! And if it were a QuickTime clip, then we could play it in-world too! But far be it for me to encourage the further degeneration of the American youth by engendering a spirit of... I just lost my train of thought. Congratulations, Frogg!

(Thanks, Adri!)

MTV to Air SL Musicians

Keiko Takamura, SL musician, has recently posted this news on the second_lifer's Journal, on LiveJournal. MTV contacted her after finding out she was a musician in SL, and sent a few people to interview her and film the results. This will be part of a series on gaming coming due in November. Keiko also mentions that they're interviewing Frogg Marlowe for the piece(s); might there be more?

MTV also recently put together the Virtual Laguna Beach website, though they used There's technology to do it. I guess this means that before too long, we'll be inundated by even more teenagers posing as adults, looking to cyber with every avatar they come across. If you all thought SL was crowded before this, just wait until November, when these pieces air. Keiko will be updating her site with more information as it comes.

(Thanks, Keiko!)

Interview: Adri Saarinen

Hot on the heels of our previous post about the in-world Jonathan Coulter concert, I've got a treat: Adri Saarinen, PR manager for the event, has given us a wonderful interview about her work with PopSci and the Creative Commons group. Thanks, Adri!

SLI: How did you come to be involved in this project?

Adri: Well, I've done some PR for various SL organizations and events, so when Creative Commons contacted Zenigma Suntzu to produce a concert, he contacted me to handle the PR side of things. Zen was contacted because he produced the City Stages concert last winter.

SLI: So you're a team on this; who else is involved?

Adri: Zen as the producer, I'm working on the PR, and Slim Warrior is providing the venue and handling concert logistics. And, of course, the Creative Commons and PopSci.com teams working from their end.

SLI:
How has it been working with CC and PopSci? How much collaboration do they give?

Adri:
CC and PopSci.com have been very involved in the process, mostly consulting through email on things like logo placement. They also, of course, provided the concert budget!

More after the jump!

Jonathan Coulton in Concert!

Great Galloping Grimjack! Popular Science and Creative Commons are co-sponsoring an in-world concert by none other than Jonathan Coulton next week Thursday!

Jonathan who? If you're not familiar with Mr. Coulton's particular brand of musical love, do yourself a treat and head over to his website and have a listen or twenty. You have to love songs with titles like 'The Town Crotch', 'Furry Old Lobster', and 'Beds Hurt My Booty'. You have to; you're required by law to love them.

Best of all, Mr. Coulton operates on the Creative Commons license tip, meaning that his songs are remixable, shareable, and downloadable for free -- but please support your Internet Bard by patronizing his tunes. Did I mention they're also DRM-free?

Adri Saarinen is working the PR for this concert, so if you have any questions/comment/love notes, you may contact her. Joining Jonathan will be SL musicians: Jonathan's concert will be held in Menorca, on Thursday, September the 14th, 2006. You can check out the original announcement here, and a more detailed announcement is here. Rock out with your blog out!
